So, my husband and I just got the good news last week! It was a suprise, so we're both still in a state of shock! Anyone have any good names? We're very nature, animal, spiritual sort of oriented , so anything unique would be great, but I would take any suggestions at this point :dance2: . Or know of any good websites, I found a couple, but I thought there must be better!

The name of a woman I just met. Diete... pronounces Dee ette.

Thought it was pretty.

Boy names I really like... Dominic, Michael, David, Robert. They're such masculine names.

This is my opinion, and I'm sorry if I offend someone.

While I understand wanting a unique name for your child--consider this. They ARE a unique human being, with all sorts of things that make them stand out in a crowd. Having a name that a) can't be pronounced, b) is constantly mispelled, will not make them any more unique, no more than being named Chris or Mark will make them 'common'. If the name has meaning to you--family names, for instance--then go for it, but please don't saddle a child with an odd name just so it stands out. Ditto for unusual spellings--Jane vrs Jayne vrs Jain, Kristina vrs Khristinna (yes, I've actually seen all of those spellings). My own name is not that uncommon, but it is contantly mispelled and mispronounced and generally mangled--I can't imagine how some of the really odd names go over. Save the odd names for pets that won't be going through the public school system.

well i first would like to congradulate you is this your first? and I when i was pregnant had a hard time not naming my daughter amber lane ..I loved that name but for memorial reasons she was named sarah rebecca but any case both of my kids didnt have names untill after they were born any ways because once you meet them sometimes the name you chose doesnt fit ...sarah was so nat an amber ..but i would love to have a nother girl to name her that ..and I know its kinda cheesy but there are names like forrest , brooke , dakota and other very natural names ...grab the baby name book though and check for meanings or you will end up with a meaning like my sons name ..lol which is majestic owner of a new home lol and my daughters name actually means princess bound or tied ...lol so while i got a good giggle if they ever have to look up meanings in school ..hehe it will be funny but any ways my last peice of advice which i wish someone would have told me is to check the top fifty baby names or the baby could forever be known as like my daughter is sarah p. because there is no less then 5 of them in her class I guess it was the years most popular ....but again i am sorry this is so long but ..hopefully this helps ...and congrats ...and good luck

orien girl you could not have said it better i agree and second that ..it only makes it easier for the bully in class to single them out and make fun of them ...i went to school with a roland and he nevr got tired of the proud mary song ...but any way ..kids are very harsh ...

LOL Roland!! Yes, this is the first child :D !! If we would have been more careful, it would have waited a couple of years, I just got into a graduate program! But the last few years I've taken to the thought that everything happens for a reason.
I agree with you oriongirl and judgemax, also not to offend anyone, but I don't get the weird spellings! A friend in high school had her spelling changed to malysa, and a cousin just speller her babys name izibelle :duh: ! I don't want strange, just not among the most common names out there. I was reading somewhere to avoid a name if you will yell it out at the park and 10 kids come running! For example, we like Autumn, Celeste, Noel for girls, Noah, Gavin, and Ian for boys. Nothing too strange here :joe: .
And we've elimated some for silly reasons, because they have the slightest potential for being made fun of!!! Its early, we still have lots of time.

Holding notepad as I type :D

Timm. Sounds good to me. :)

If you want an unusual name, just stick it in the middle. We have a Raymond Copland W. (named after the composer-my husband is a music teacher) and a John Gustavs W. (Gustavs being a family name). If John was a girl he would have been Teresa Wren W.- Tess for short. Nobody bothers with middle names, and the kids can always keep it a secret.

There is a limit to how much you can control kid's names anyway. People will give them stupid nicknames for example. Even the given names you work so hard on will go in and out of fashion during their lifetimes. I really liked a baby name book called Beyond Madison and Montana, if you're looking for more ideas.

My daughters are Kamryn and Kaleigh. I have cousins named DeAndra and Sierra, I love their names. And I always loved the name Rachel, who was another cousin who passed away in infancy. I don't have any boys, so I didn't ever have to ponder boy names for very long! And if I did, my husband would have demanded a good, solid guy's guy name like Rob, Mark or John. Nothing foofy or fancy or even spelled more, uh, interestingly. I loved Tristan for a boy before we knew what we were having... but my husband would rather leave the country than have a son named Tristan. :p

My godson's name is Connory. They call him Connor for short, but wanted his name to be different from all the other Connor's out there.

We had fun picking out names! Sure gives you something to pass the time during those long months of waiting!

Congrats! :dance2:
