I was looking at my tank while the lights were off with a flashlight.. I kept seeing these little white shelled things crawling around.. looked closely and they were little baby snails.. abunch of them all over a piece of live rock.. I was told the snails wouldnt breed in my tank... could someone shed some light on what would have triggered this.. I have had my snails for about 6 months.. looks like baby MTS..

Baby MTS are white in color and the color changes as they mature.

Edit: Which snail do you have? Sploke pointed "live rock" and I skimmed that part.:grinyes: :screwy:

but not in SW...do you have any nassarius snails? I think they'll breed pretty readily in aquaria. Look sort of like MTS but not so sharply cone-shaped.

I've got these in my tank and they seem to be reproducing. They get too big and knock everything over and around. They do keep the rocks clean but rarely touch the glass.

I have MTS,Nassarius, astrea? and they look like my MTS they are tiny and white not pointed. also unless I took one out and took a pic(which would still be blurry) I don't have a camera that could photograph these little guys with clarity.

The snails that look and act like MTS are likely small rissoid snails. They are about the size of a grain of rice at the largest (most smaller). The other snails you have could possibly be Collonista or something similar.

Hey guys.. I was watching the tank last night with my flashlight again to see if I could find anymore small snails.. well there is around 3 different species weather baby or rissoid.. the rissoid I saw was on the glass.. nice long shell and about half a grain of rice.. then I saw some MTS looking white snails on the rock.. half hour later.. two other snails are on a diff rock that dont resemble the other two I have seen. I'm sort of confused on what is happening.. these things just showed up a week ago..

They've been there longer than that ;). The rissoids actually bury underneath the sand most of the time.
