I hope this is the right place to post this.

I am so excited. I have a striped Raphael and a spotted Raphael in a 75g tank.

I never see them except maybe a glimsp at night. I can see the end of their tails where they hide during the day and that is it. Well last night I was putting in a couple of the tetramin tablets before I went to bed and I saw a striped fish trying to get one of the tablets that fell close to where they hide. But it looked different that the striped Raphael! It was alot smaller. So I kept looking and finally got a pretty good look and to my surprise it was a baby striped raphael, about 2iinches long. I was so excited. I have no idea how they give birth, but you can bet I will look it up. I just had to share this with someone.
I also have 2 pretty big silver dollars. 2 big plecos, 1 big black upside down catfish, and a big shark. When I say big I am talking 6". That is big to me.
I was surprised that no one ate the little guy.

Thanks for listening

I dout it was a capitve breed stroak of luck. How long has the tank been running? I heard several storys like: someone took a piece of lack rock out of the tank. He is unaware that his rapheal, was still atached, he forgot he even had one because it was in the tank for a few years. There was only a small puddl of water and only the head was sumergerged. He discovered it a week later and it was safe and unharmed

The tank has been up and running about 6 months. The Raphaels I have had for about two years. I moved them from my 55g so I could put in my Oranda gold fish.

I have only seen 1 so far. I saw it just a few minutes ago. It looks like it stays cramed up in this tower on my castle where the other one always stays. Since I do not know if they are live bearers or egg layers I am not sure what to think. If they are live bearers I am guessing that they would be quite small and may have been eaten. If they were eggs, well I don't know.

get mysis here. he might be able to help.

Congrats. If you managed to breed yours that is pretty amazing. No one knows the difference between males and females, let alone how they breed. After looking at many sites I found one that said they lay eggs, that’s all I could find.

How big is your Raphael? If it is only a few inches bigger than the one you saw there is a possibility that with moving quickly, lighting and other factors it could be that same fish. I guess the only way to know would find all three specimens at the same time. And if you truly have a baby, you had better go out buy yourself another tank, set it up like your other one, only with the Raphaels in it and figure out if you can recreate the setting and pass along any information you can to us about their breeding habits.

Congrats! I love these guys. I had a really cool one that was around 8" but my heater malfunctioned and cooked him
