Baby swordtails eat each other!?

I didn't think so either but last night I watched the biggest one pestering one of the small ones. Lesson learned I guess, even they need bigger spaces.

Beware!

Beware of those breeder tank boxes! The nets are better. I lost 2 entire drops of baby molly fry because I used a plastic breeder box to house them. There was a tiny hole in 1 corner ... hardly visable ... and they slowly escaped into the tank where they became SNACKS! Either check and double check and then triple check again that the plastic box doesn't have any holes ... be sure to check the slits for flow also, sometimes they can be too big and the fry get through.

Also, with the plastic breeder boxes, the water doesn't circulate properly and goes stale. The nets are far better as the water circulates through. I had the shock of my life when my swordtail gave birth, there were about 50 of the little blighters! A couple were dead and only their eyes were left as they rotted really quickly. I have to say that I let them out into the community to fend for themselves, they're not very good at surviving as they all got eaten. I wonder if it's because they're quite white, whereas the guppies are a bit more camouflaged when they're young.

Hi and thank you for your prompt replies. In fact I am using a net breeding tank. I guess they all jumped out and they served as SNACKS to the bigger fish (I am a big fan of the silver shark fish and glass catfish !).
Anyway, I would try to cover up the tank next time and hope for a result. :idea2:

Thanks.
