hey guys,
this is a first for me so i decided to create a thread. i've got some white clouds in a planted 10 (i want to move them to a 20L since they're so active but have been waiting to get another bag of eco-complete) that i've basically just been feeding and not really watching much (end of semester busy-ness). anyways, i fed them last night and saw a little sliver of blue dart to the top. at first, i thought it was a tv reflection or something, but then i saw another. the WCM's are the only inhabitants of the tank (other than snails), so i had no idea what had happened. upon really close examination, i can confirm due to finnage coloration that they are baby white clouds. i am pretty excited, as i have never had any type of success breeding fish before, and now, through no attempt of my own, succeeded. i can only see a few, but i have a plant blob of floating stem plants that i never rooted, and the smaller ones that i can see have been swimming around near it. i'll get some pics when my roommate gets home with her camera, but the largest one isn't even 1/4" yet so it's going to be tough. just wanted to pass on my excitement(:.

White Clouds are easier to produce than most Livebearers since they ignore their own eggs and fry if well fed. Congrats!

I only feed my fish once daily, and all the white cloud fry disappeared overnight about a week after they became free-swimming. There are 5 adults in a 10 gallon with an aquaclear 150 on one side of the tank and a large clump of java moss.

thanks Sub. toddnbecka, i can only see about three of them, and they are all free swimming. one is much larger than the others, which i thought was strange. i have no idea how many there originally were.

Mine have never bred but from what I understand what you did is about the best way to get them to spawn, feed and ignore. Someone told me that they actually don't perform water changes, let the water evaporate about half-way and then refill and usually that will induce spawning. Good luck, from what I have been told the fry usually like to stick directly to the top of the water and the adults will cannabalize them so the floating plants you have are a great idea.

I keep a group of 4 adult T. micagemmae in a 10 with a clump of Java Moss and have fry of all sizes at any given time. Perhaps there's some cannibalism, but I do tend to overfeed and then make up for it with water changes so that probably keeps cannibalism to a minimum.

Congrats!!! +1 for breeding white clouds.

thanks guys. yeah the big plant clump at the top was unintentional but i guess it worked out. im not sure if they ate whatever other ones there might have been, but for the most part the adults are leaving the babies alone. the largest fry even swims around with them. i'm also worried the HOB whisper might have sucked some in.

Congrats on the babies!! you should post pics if you can. :)
