i think we should all quit complaning about it. and this thread is pointless because if someone can come on the site to see a thread that says its back up, they should already know its back up by the fact that they can acess your post.

We complain in hopes the owner will take necessary action to solve these monthly outages.

I don't think 1 day is a big deal. .. things happen.

Sure, stuff happens. But when stuff happens on a regular basis, it reflects how important the site is to its' owner. It's a simple problem with simple solutions. Several of us have tried to help, but the owner prefers to let the site limp along.

Bowheads! was up and you guys are MORE than welcome there, but Bowheads is very young and doesn't have the database, the content, that AC has. It's a very poor second, IMO. I'll work on that and if anyone wants to contribute stuff, that's very kosher to me. I've got a MySQL FW species database in mind and will be posting ideas/information about it on Bowheads.

Dunno why you couldn't access Bowheads -- there were quite a few AC people there? What was happening when you tried to access?

My biggest fear/worry is AC just dying from neglect. If it keeps going down, we will lose members. If nothing is changed, mods will leave out of frustration. At some point the extremely knowledgable members we are VERY lucky to have -- like Daveedka, RTR, Plantbrain (any marine people that I don't know about because I'm not into marine) and many others -- will leave for other boards. People will follow them because those are the people who give us the "good" information. AC will become a board filled with bickering wannabes.

It's a great place. I don't want to lose it.

I try to never be obvious..

and I wasn't referring directly to the influx of trolls.. more the level of behaviour they brought out in some of the slightly more long-standing members here..

if you're feeling defensive, I'm sure there's no reason to.. there's a big difference between strongly stating a point/fact when there's a need to, and openly bickering with someone who might disagree with you.
