back with a new little tank

Welcome back! Nice little tank. If you identify the starter the advice may be varied.

For a tank that lightly loaded, you should be able to just do easy water changes and get there.

I was going to suggest Trigonostigma Hengeli, which is a little smaller than the Harlequin; it might work better in a small tank, but I guess I'm too late.

Haha, I bought this one new because there was nothing good on craigslist. So someone else stoll it from both of us!

The product is called "Aquarium Starter and Optimizer" it is actually a not-for-sale sample bottle sent to the fish store for them to try, so I can't find any company info on it (bad marketing on their part).

I just chcecked the water again and I'm still registering nothing. This evening I plan on doing a small water change and adding in another fish. Bitbot, those hengel's rasboras are nice looking, but I've never seen them in a fish store before. Would I have to order them in?

I failed at reading my test results this morning. I'm registering somewhere between .00 and .25 pmm of nitrite. I say somewhere between, because the color doesn't match any of the ones on the card  but looks to be between the .00 and .25 colors.

Those sparkling gouramis are so cute! I might pick one of them up in addition to the rasporas. I'm going to ask about the hengel's when I go back to the store today. Maybe they can get me some of those. I've never had a harliquin get bigger than an inch though, I don't know why everywhere on the web says 1 1/2- 2 inches for them.

Alright NOW we're talking! Last night I did a 15% water change and added another fish, in hopes to get it to start cycling. I tested this morning and got:

Ammonia .50ppm
Nitrite .25ppm
Nitrate .50ppm

I did a 30% water change and will check again tomorrow. It looks like this cycle in a bottle thing isn't all hocus pocus

this thread should almost be towed to the newbie section, it's been so long since I've cycled a tank that I feel like one!
