Bacteria and bio-wheels

How long can bacteria on biowheels survive if not running on the tank? How best to keep them? I am having filter issues, and may not even use the filter again but would like to keep things alive until I decide :help: They are currently in a pitcher in tank water.....

just simply put your bio whel in the tank with your fish. this will keep bacteria alive on them. The bacteria need the ammonia and nitirites that your fish and the wastes of an aquariuim produces to feed off of.

It would survive up to 12 hours if it doesnt dry out. And 24-48 hours with out food. Its best just to let it float, not sink in a tank.
