Bad Clown Loach Problem

Help please, I sent a post here about my clown loach ... its developed worse now, he has started panting & sadly his eyes are glossed over I'm sure he cannot even see now he bumps into things ... should I euthenise him?? but what can it be wrong with him ...... I wonder if my other clowns are at risk...

Well clown loaches are very susceptable to Ich are you sure he is not suffering from that? Sorry I didnt see your other posts so maybe somebody already asked. Anyways I would just try to treat him rather than euthanize him. Turn you tank temp up and add maybe half a teaspoon of salt to the water I know people will probably yell at me for saying that since Clown loaches really dont like salt but I mean unless you know exsactly what he is suffering from what else can you do. Actually here is a thought go to your LFS and they usually carry a med called "general cure" or something similar. Try that and forget about the salt. still turn the temp up to 83-84

Thanks for your help, bad news he died ten mins ago ... I'm kind of glad because he looked like he was suffering real bad, bumping into things & panting ... I don't think its white spot though ... his eyes were glazed over badly & the poor guy couldnt see anymore ... can anyone please give me an idea on what it might have been.......

Thanks for your reply .... I'm really keen to learn from this because I love my Clowns, he will be missed, I have 4 others still so I'm hoping they won't get same thing what ever it was .... I read that clowns are better in odd numbers thats why I had 5 ... Symptoms of Deceased Clown: First thing I noticed was he kept loosing his balance while hovering 3" from the gravel bottom ... He was off his food ... No physical differences except for his eyes, on his last day he went blind I'm sure becaues they were glazed over & he bumped into everything... plus he was panting very fast ... Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?

Check your levels, amonia/nitrite/nitrate because More so than not if both eyes cloudy over, its usually started by water quality. It is a bacterial infection so it can happen in perfect conditions, but usually in that case its more than likely only one eye....also if he hurt his eye by bumping into something it will usually be only one eye....so I would really keep and eye on your water quality.

Thanks Seamen ... my Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates 5ppm .... I do regular 20% water chages ... I'm hoping what ever mr Clown had wasn't infectious
