Bad idea?

Is it bad keeping a pink convict with blood parrots? I put in a couple blood parrots in my tank and the stupid convict chased all day. The convict also chases my pacu around and its 4 inches longer but it wont even touch the arow or the oscar. I paid 15 bucks a peice for the BP and 3 bucks for the convict. If it continous to act this way Im going to dump it.

Actually a jellybean parrot is a common parrot (severum/red devil test tube cross) that has been dyed via dipping method. They usually loose their color about two to three months after the dipping process turning a very drab orange color.

With Parrots the males that are fertile are the most valuable. Though the species are now breeding true, the male fertility rate is still only around 10 -12% Having a male that can breed is still rare.

Because the fish is a hybrid it is very unlikely that it would be able to cross breed with most other species. Genetics just would not allow it. Granted there always is a possiblity that they would be able to breed with some certain species. Nature always finds a way.

Acutually I think the JB is a BP x convict. if Haggisman see this he is the hybrid man. Most males are infertile, but there are some that are fertile, and its the females that can cross breed, eayser. Just because its a hybrid it still can and does cross, and it will cross with another cichlid. most if not all cichlids given the chance will try to cross breed with another cichlid.

and going back to her original question they might cross breed but this is the chance you take with putting any m/f cichlid in the same tank.

The differnce with the BP is that it is actually not a true hybrid.
At no point in the original making of the fish did a severum and a devil have babies.

It was a lab fish. Unlike other hybrids like the flowerhorn whereas the fish were actually crossed then crossed again etc....

Yes fish of similar genuses will cross breed IE Convict with a Sajica or a spilurus. Choclate cichlid with a texas (I have them supplying me with feeders right now)

But up until very recently the parrot was not able to breed true. Because it was two fish that would never have bred at any point naturally. IE a shark and a ray.

That makes the parrot a special case genetically.
