hi i have 130 gal new tank due to last 1 decide to crack about 3 months ago..im useing old rock which has died off and put a few bits of cured in to seed it also a bit of squid to boost cycle....the tank has been running for 3 days...the prob i have is a very pungent smell which is stinking out whole house...it smells like rotten cabbage not nice smell nose peg smell lol...protein skimmer is running and removing dark brown waste ..as if there is fish in tank which there is not is this the norm for smell..... my last tank was set with live rock so i never got that smell...
thanks in advance fo feed back....

Hiya Kev, the smell will be due to the carcass decomposing and producing ammonia..If the tank is near a window, try putting a fan blower to try and waft the smell of it out of a window..the smell will get better.........eventually...what you need to be doing is monitoring the ammonia with your test kit and it will eventually peak. You will know it has peaked becasue nitrITE will start to be shown to rise when you test for nitriTE. Whenthis happens, you can remove the rotting lump as it will of servied its purpose...

All the gunk that the skimmer is removing is from the dead rock going into the wter column, as we discussed in chat last night...

Anymore questions on anythign, just shout up mate..Nice to catch you on the forum mate..
