I bought a rena cal 100 thermometer about 4 months ago. Recently, the thermometer has been off by 3 degrees...does this brand usually have quality problems or did I just get unlucky? Should I exchange for anothe rena cal or get another brand?

Most every thermometer Ive had has been off by a few degrees. Its not really a big deal, just remember that it is always off by 3 degrees, and add (or subtract) them back in when you look at the temp.

I'm paranoid. and bored most of the time :)

I always use at least 2-3 thermometers of different brands and/or technologies, keep a record, and track trends (usually waste of time as most thermometers are always x number of degrees apart no matter what the real temp) then mark (mentally usually) the adjustment for each of the thermo's .

Every once in a while i borrow a calibrated lab thermo which cuts out alot of the hassle.

but for most fish +-3 deg of precision is all that is needed just as long as the temp is stable.
