They usually won't eat flake food, or even frozen food, so you need a reliable source of live food they'll eat. Which means you probably need to culture it yourself instead of relying on a store.

Other than that, they are really cool fish, and are similar to apistos or other dwarf cichlids. They're nandids, though- more closely related to gouramis and bettas I think.
