So, the loach I have is the sick one. It has abffled everyone I have talked to. similar to Erythrodermatitis, but not the same, i think. so, this has progressed over about 3 weeks. So, I first noticed a hole in the side of fish after "side" fin. Not red, just a hole. He didn't seem bothered so I said okay strange. Then I noticed he had 2 large lumps/bulges in the same side. Looked as if the fish ate and 2 eggs. I called LFS they had no idea. I began to treat with Melafix because it is rather gentle, and i thought maybe an infection from the hole. well, after treating for longer than it said. the original hole still there, and not red.
However, now the bulges "popped" and a gaping hole in same side. I can see 1 rib. he still swims and eats, altough hides all the time. I don't blame him! Anyway, now treating with Pimafix b/c I saw some white fuzzy looking stuff on the large hole, like a fungus. Now, a hole on belly as well. Again, not red around the edges. Looks less like an ulcer and more like swiss cheese fish.
Also, his barbbles (whisker like projections on mouth), are shriveld and droppy. Any help much appreciated. Oh, one more thing. When I lift a plant to make sure he still alive, he shoots to the surface rapidly chaseing his own tail for a bit, then back down to sit on the bottom, eat a little, and hide again.

Thank you

I am not sure quite what it is. I have seen those type of bumps on feeder fish. I am not sure what to tell you... it sounds very strange.

Most of the time, white fuzz is actually not a fungus but the sign of a bacterial infection.
More powerful antiobiotics than Melafix may help keep the infection in check, but I have no idea what's causing the bumps and holes. Poor guy.

Weather loaches are often used as food fish & are otherwise neglected, like goldfish. I don't have any advice beside quarantine & antibiotics/antiparasitics. I've never seen fish with the holes like yours. I'm sorry you're having problems, they seem like cool fish I'd like to try someday, good luck.

Melafix and Pimafix will not do anything much. If the bulges seem to pop, it sounded like bacterial infection to me. Has the fish been isolated yet? I'd treat him with Maracyn and Maracyn 2 combination. If it does not improve after two weeks, then euthanasia is the last resort.
