Yes, duckweed can be quite annoying. I just scooped out a large cup from my tanks tonight. It is really annoying when it stops up your HOB filter. My apple snail loves it though. If I want to get rid of it in a tank, I put him in there for about a week and the problem is solved, of course if there are any other plants in the tank, he eats those too, LOL. Another annoying thing about duckweed is it blocks out most of the light to the other plants if you don't stay right on top of it.

It controls nitrate alright. Between the plants in my tank and the duckweed, there was almost zero nitrate and I had been bad about tank maintenance. I was actually shocked that the nitrate reading was so low.
