I've narrowed it down to these two for my 29 gallon Im setting up to move my octo to (so the coral frags wont be used as throwing toys anymore!) I would like to hear personal input since I've done enough research...and nothing beats experience. I definitely wanted a HOB also, which is one reason for these.

Personally, I never liked the performance of either. Look into the Reef Octopus HOB--IME, their performance is at least a little better and the price is good as well.

Cant find an Octopus HOB anywhere to buy...anyone know of anywhere?

Take a look here. The price isn't bad at all, either--even for the dual version. It is similar in design to bakpaks, but with a needlewheel impeller.

There's a AquaC Remora on our 40g and I haven't had any problems with it.

I never had a problem with either skimmer. I just don't think they do as well as other skimmers, though, especially for the price.

I've had only limited experiences with the various skimmers. The AquaC Remora I bought used, so I'm not really able to comment on how effective it is for the price of a new one.

I have a friend with a Reef Octopus in-sump model and it seems to have done wonders for his tank compared to his old skimmer.

A lot of people over at RC realy don't like the AquaC...but I've heard no complaints about the octopus from either side yet, so that looks like the winner. I think I'll order one today if I can find one thats not backordered...aquacave was another site that had them but they too have the HOB backordered.

i have the aquac remora pro w/ mag drive 3 pump on my 75 gal and its def pretty sweet. the price was a little steep but it seems to work quite well. my collection cup is full of nasty stuff in a little more than a week. however i'll soon be adding a refugium to my tank and plan on getting a sump type skimmer in the not too distant future
