Balancing privacy on an aquarium forum.

I've had clients in real world that we have had to call the cops on because they have repeatedly threatened to shoot us,etc. Good thing they didn't have our home address or home phone number. the internet is just another avenue, and yes sometimes people let their guard down or get taken advantage of.

I kinda freaked when I googled my name and found several links to posts on AC. I have given my picture, my city and state and full name. Not that I'm a hot young babe, lol, but there are weirdos that can fixate on a warthog.

The people I've met and become familiar with on AC... I trust and would have over to my house. I just don't want to have too much exposure to the masses, lol.

Most of the AC members don't have their actual pic as an avatar with personal info along with that, as I did. Oh, we can go to the thread that has our mugshots, but even there, most AC members don't have name, city, state and photo all in one place.

That's why I changed my ID name and became more vague on the location, though a lot of you know the details... I trust you guys, but decided to be a little more anonymous to the casual viewer, or googler.

That's true!
It is very scary to think about sometimes.
or meet in a dark alleyway wearin all black and say "SUP man?" as you pretend to give someone a secret handshake but are really giving money and getting a small baggie of aquatic plant bulbs

Weirdos trying to google you...

In all truthfulness, some people are just strange...

I should be more concerned than I am but I have had tons of people over to my home to buy fish/plants/inverts and have had nothing but positive experiences. I am much more cautious about giving out my phone number and msn address than my street address, lol. Nothing i hate more than internet stalkers of which I have had a few.
