Ballasts external vs internal

What are the advantages/disadvantages of each. From the point of serviceability wouldn't the external ballasts be more user friendly. I am considering purchasing Outer Orbit that has internal electronic ballast for the HQI bulbs. Any comments on the above unit?

I dont know about the above unit but my halide has a external ballast and I can keep it cooler if necessary and it wont be that bulky.

I agree with ghost knife it keeps the ballast cooler and keeps the lights from weighing so much.
