bamboo shrimp feeding

I got a bamboo shrimp about a week ago. The shrimp seems to be doing well in the tank--its color has adjusted to my tank and it is fairly active. At the time I bought it, I did some research and it seemed that they ate off of the particles in the water and were good scavengers. Doing some more reseach, it seems that some people run into starvation problems. Thoughts? How can I ensure my new shrimpie is getting the nutrients it needs?

Also, any gotchas I should know about keeping a shrimp? I wanted to get a loach (as I'm having a snail problem), but wasn't sure if that would infringe on the shrimp's territory too much.

I have a 29 gallon tank live plant tank with the shrimp, two lemon tetras, two blackskirt tetras, and a gourami.

Well the territory thing would be the last of your worries! Many types of loaches love to eat invertabrates like shrimp and crabs etc. I had a tank of clown loaches and they would feed mainly on gut loaded shrimp and they would get the odd de-clawed crab. That would be something you want to check out first!

Second- just make sure that there is food! Add a chunk of vegetable or a piece of "algae on a stick" there are many things you can do to avoid starvation! You can wait till someone else responds for this part though as I have mainly only ever used shrimp as food for my fish, rather than as additions to my aquariums.

I did see that thread, but wanted to see if I could get some additional information. I guess I didn't read close enough to see the last post on it was from a few days back! I only noticed the original posting date.

I'll keep my eye on him and perhaps try some Cyclop-eeze if I start seeing him slow down and/or his color fading. Perhaps he's getting enough that floats down after feeding the other tank inhabitants. I certainly don't want to overfeed.
