A few days ago I was given two bamboo shrimp, a male and a berried female. Last night for the first time since I got them the female came out for a bit and I was just curious as to how long it will take her to drop her eggs. I know they won't survive because I dont have brackish water but I was just wondering. Thanks :)

Im not sure about that, but I do know how to tell the difference between a male and a female. On the third set of legs, the first pair of real legs after the 2 pairs of fans, the male will have these legs much thicker and bigger than all of his other legs. Females just have 6 evenly sized legs.

The female will not drop the eggs they will hatch! The larva will then die in the freshwater or get eaten by whatever fish are in the aquarium with them.

It is hard to say when they will hatch. With out knowing how long the female was berried before you got her and the temperature of the water it would just be a wild guess!

Thank you! I know the male because he is bigger and has a really bright yellow stripe down his back, the female is pretty translucent. The male hangs out in a floating plant all day catching stuff that comes out of the filter, the female hides most of the time but I have seen her twice
