Bamboo Shrimp

No salt in tanks.

Put the crab in his/her own brackish tank, or return to the LFS.

I've had my bamboo shrimp for almost a year. He's been more than happy as a scavenger with very little supplemental feeding. Bright beautiful red. And so fun to watch in front of the filter output.

This is one of those situations where an internal filter is just a great thing to have!

I successfully kept the same bamboo shrimp alive for 2 or 3 years in my 20G tank. I never fed it anything special. It seemed to do more than fine just scavanging the algae and flakes that fell to the bottom of the tank. I assume that it simply died of old age. I am planning on getting another one for my new 10G that recently finished cycling.

I have two bamboo shrimp.

What i do is crush flake food down and place it near the power head. Then they would come out and stick out their lil web hands thingys.

But theres always little parts of leftover food floating around that they catch, so its easy to take care of them.

I hate to go off topic... but this question has been killing me. What does LFS stand for? Something Fish Store

Local Fish Store. Mine plays in front of my Co2 reactor Read Seas 5000,sometimes he even lets the other one join him but they are somewhat terrirotial, so the other has to find another location or wait his turn. One of my other fish is also mezmerized by that contraption lol.

If I can find a nice slender small rock for the corner of my tank I would have 2 great feeding locations for them.

hi guys. The folks at petshrimp.com try to advise against "forcing" the bamboos to pick up food off the bottom. I'm not sure why, except that some people say that's a sign that they're not getting enough to eat. I guess since they're designed to be filter feeders, that's the kind of food that really does best for them. Really neat guys, though! Can't wait to get another.

Mine climbed out of the tank (and died) when nitrates got too high. They're known to be escape artists if anything is making them unhappy. So be good about your water changes, unless you want a Houdini :D

And yes, a bright red color means they're healthy and well-fed :)

He's a nice mahogany color, and loved to hang out at either the filter intake or on the leaf of my amazon sword plant.

I have kept them in the past and I would usually supplement thier diet with liquid and powdered fry food. Mine loved it. I'm sure crushed up food will work just fine. I have also read that you should avoid having them pick up food off the bottom of the tank but I kept mine well fed and they would still walk around sweeping for food on the bottom.

Mine does both the filter and the floor cleaning. I think they simply like the variety.

I know he's getting enough food because he poops constantly, and he continues to grow.
