Bamboo

Where do i cut the aquatic bamboo i have because its getting too tall
at the point where it grows off the original stock? (the node is that what its called?)
also can i just cut it in half and successfully plant it?
It is from petco so no its not lucky bamboo

I've been looking at plants at the chain stores like petco for many years... what you got from them is definitely not aquatic. You can keep the bottom submerged, but the plant will slowly (very slowly) die off if you don't let the top branches stick up out of the water.

i would not be too sure it's not lucky bamboo. i have lucky bamboo and petco bamboo side by side and i have no clue which is which. i am thoroughly convinced they are the same thing and probably in need of proof that they are not. what you need to do is make sure you can cut enough height so the bottom can be underwater where you want it and neither the top or any portion of any nodes touch the water. then just put it where you want it and double check nothing is under water (even the bottom of the branch "node" in the water will wither it to death eventually).

have you thought of keeping it sticking out of an open are on the tank. i had four across the back of my tank at one point and it looked really cool.

Yeah, it's Lucky bamboo. My local Petcos all sell them.

i don't know about aquatic uses of bamboo, but i know that bamboo is normally cut just above a node with a leaf on it. it's got to have a leaf at the top to keep drawing nutrients all the way to the top, else the top will whither and look like crap. =)

are you sure? i don't know everything there is to know about them... let me get that out there. i did get some from my uncle who got his at walmart. they were not getting enough light and were sitting in stagnant water. they were not getting any nutrients and most of them shed many of, if not all their leaves. since they have been in my tank all of them have been coloring up nicely from a pale yellow to green. many have sprouted new leaves. i often see them being sold without nodes. i have one that's about 3 1/2' tall and the node is all the way at the top. i would really like to trim it and from what i can gather i should be able to just cut it in half as long as i leave the node both halves should do fine. correct me if you know for a fact i am wrong.
