banana for these fish??

update:
The platy was eagerly wrestling with it when I checked on them last.
Gourami was nearby so she might have been eating it too, but she saw me coming and moved.
Snails are going to town!

Mashing it would cause the pieces to be so small, the fish would hardly notice them... I say just cut a small slice, leave the skin on and thow it in. Worst case senario, they don't eat it.

That's what I was thinking. I might try leaving on some peel next time if this test goes well. I suppose the snails might like the skin?

Snails and otos will likely munch on it. The extra fiber would be great for the otos but I assume the snails would be better able to break small pieces off. Just rinse it well and I see no reason why not to include it.

maybe I should use the leaf clip for the skin and just have it seperate?
That way everyone has their food where they like it.

lol :)
Sheppard rules, Mckay drools! :grinyes:

OH NO! I'm surprised you said that because Dr Awesome Rodney McCool McKay is my all time favorite. he saved WAY more episodes than Lt popcorn kernel sheppard. like he says... when the military screws things up, they call upon the scientists to save the day. but enough about off topic jibber jabber... have fun with your bananas! if it works for you, i may try it... it's easier than blanching crap

btw, mckay is so friggin perfect, they even used his real sister to play his sister in the show. who cares that he looks like quentin tarantino... he's not as creepy as him irl

LOL I was more less kidding, but I do like Shep better than Mckay, sorry.:grinyes:

Finallly! Someone else who thinks he looks like that tarantino:perv: guy - and that qt is creepy! :iagree:

His sister was great, they should have had her on more.

I haven't tried the peel yet, but the banana bit went pretty good. I'd guess it took them about the same time for 2/3 of an 1/8" slice as for an algae wafer.
Unfortunately I'm still not sure who all actually ate it. I know the platy and snails did, but I didn't actually see anyone else at it.
Oh and the black worms really like it too.
I still have a couple 'naners left so I might try again with a smaller piece (once I've retrieved my anchors lol) when I can just watch them for a while.
I suppose if I made a paste (or just used baby food banana) I might be able to float some in the food ring and that would get the gourami's attention so I can see if she eats it.

I usually just use baby food instead of blanching. Just mix a bunch up in a glass bowl, microwave for few minutes and I forgot a step lol. Boil a 1/2 - 1 cup water and mix in 1 packet gelatine, pour this in the bowl with the vegies, stir , then microwave (or I suppose you could mix the gel water in afterwards). I usually add a drop of prime to the mix just in case the filter doesn't work completely. Then I like to add some good quality flake food, some dried crushed shrimp or krill, maybe some dried bloodworms, a little garlic. If you have any vitamin additives add them now too. Next just pour into a dish, refridgerate, then freeze if necessary, then cut into pieces. I like to leave some in the fridge and freeze the rest. A few jars of food are good for an 8x8" pan and last a while. Nice and cheap and as fw steps as possible, just the way I like it lol.

And of course Mckay had to save the day, that's why he's there! lol Shep's just there to shoot things. ;)
