I baught a pair of banded coral shrimp about 9 days ago. Last night I was checking out my tank, and the 2 shrimp came out like always. The coral shrimp share the same section of live rock on one side of the tank, and my 2 peperments share some live rock on the other side of the tank. My bigger coral shrimp is now missing his whole pincher limb (looks like it was takin off at his body). Do you guys think this was do to a lost battle?
 
Is this a mated pair of shrimp, or just two shrimp? Coral banded shrimp are not well known for tolerance--they tend to be aggressive towards each other and other inverts. It's most likely that this is not am ted pair, and the larger will likely kill the other, pievce by piece if it can. In a large tank, sometimes they can co-exist, but often this is not the case. I would return one of them. While they can regrow lost limbs, it is stressful to have them repeatedly removed.
 
I have a single BCS and recently it lost it's right claw. It's been about a week and it's claw is back. Not full size however, it's about a 1/4 the size of the other but just as long. It has gained its stripes already though.
 
I would not say it was a mated pair, but they live in the same cave together. I never see them fight. The big one is the one with the lost limb. The big one is also carrying eggs now. They both venture out on there own with the night light on, and come back to the same cave later. My flame hawk fish parked by there cave (before I seen the pincher missing) and the big one bowed up on him, and the hawk swam off. I was thinking the hawk was more than likely the culprit.
 
about an hour after I posted last night, the shrimp molted, and the claw is back. The new claw is smaller, and white at the momet. I will be curious as to what happens in the next few days.
