My bananna plant developed this strange white mold. I pitched it because I was worried it might spread to my other plants but I was wondering what I could do in the future to keep that from happening.

Could you define the mold in more detail? Also, did you plant the bannana parts or leave them atop your substrate? I planted mine a little too deeply once and the plant looked bad rather quickly. When I took it back out and let it sit on top of the sand, it perked right back up.
It was like a white fizz, then the bananna bits started to turm blackish. I had the tips of the banna bits in the substrate but it wasn't more than 1/4" at most.
