Bare Bottom Potted Discus Tank

Man, I loved the tank before. It was planted very nicely. Plenty of room to swim, yet enough cover for the fish. When I scrolled down, I didn't get why you made that type of change, but it makes sense if its just easier to maintain the Discus tank. I really liked your stlye though on the planted tank. I always end up over planting mine and it drives me nuts.

I am jealous of Discus keepers. Looking great. Bare bottom seems to be the smart way to go with Discus.

Hi
There is a post on FW equipment forum about painting the bottom of tanks without substrates. They used that 'flecked '
acrylic gives the illusion of sand and stops the reflections withourt the problems lol A bit late , but someething to keep in mind for the next setup??? gary

Love the tanks, both of them. I do not keep discus, but have BB tanks for my pleco colonies. As stated, with BB, if it is not time for a WC, I can siphon out the extra food and poop with my trusty turkey baster without having to break out the python. Just makes it a bit easier. Good luck.

Pretty awesome tank, dude. Nice looking discus!

Thank you good sir =)

Thank you for you comment about my previous tank. I liked it as well, but I have some nice aquascapes planned out for two 29 gallons and a 40 gallon that I will be working on soon. I needed my 55 gallon more open and easier to clean for my discus, it gets 2-3 water changes a week. I also have a 150gallon in the works for a bigger discus show tank.

What's holding you back from being a Discus keeper yourself? Bare bottom is the only sure way to keep discus clean imo.

I've seen a few setups done that way in person and I just didn't like the look of it at all. =/ I actually like how bare bottom looks.

I am too undisciplined to do Discus. If fish ever come back from the dead, I am screwed.

Update. The fishes enjoying their water change. They get a 50% water change every other day.
