I've nevered heard of that ever happening, the barking i mean, my pleco's blow bubbles all the time. that's pretty normal. Sounds like you got hosed on an all ready ailing fish.... sorry to hear
Oh come on people this is an obvious case of possession lol but seriously sorry for the loss. I never had this happen to me but I recall a bark is stress related. As to why who knows Cough cough...possession...cough cough
I've never heard of plecos croaking, but I know Raphael catfish do it. He may just have been kept in poor conditions and then the fresh new water and clean tank just did him in. This happens a lot...just read some of Chefjamesscott posts about rescuing fish who have been kept very badly and can't transition to the new environment.
Honestly, I just find it unlikely that someone sold a sick fish knowingly just to make ten bucks. I think it's more likely that the fish way outgrew the tank, had been living in filth for a long time, and was shocked to be introduced to a sparkly clean spacious tank...and the shock killed him. It happens, something about osmoregulation and adjusting to TDS levels...
i have to agree with platytudes. i think a mixture of tank conditions and stress(fear) is what killed your pleco. I have never had good luck with transitions of larger fish like that anyway. not asying that is always the case though. im sorry for you loss. I know that raphael cats bark when pulled out of the water for whatever reason, so i think it has something to do with water conditions.
Mine will come to the surfage and gulp air, making a slurping sound. He'll do it about every 30 minutes for a day or so then not again for a month. I was told that this is somewhat normal behavior. since he stopped, i didnt question it.
sounds strange. Not sure what to think about that...
