Base Rock

I made the mistake of starting my tank cycle with no base rock because it hadn't arrived from hirocks.com. Well, now it's here. But, one of the peices is seriously a boulder. It will barely fit in my tank and that's if I angle it correctly and it stands up just the way I want it. So, now I not only have to add rock to a tank full of water and already settled sand, but I need to break it up. Has anyone broken it up before, does it break easy? I don't want it to shatter or just chip away in little peices. Any suggestions?

Get a really small pointed object such as a chisel. Try and find a hollow that it will fit into somwhere in the middle of the rock, not the edge. Wearing some goggles and some gloves to absorb vibrations hit it really hard with a metal hammer and it should split quite easily in half!

I wore glasses. :) But, it workes nicely. Picked up a 3/4" Cold Chisen and used a regular hammer. I just slowly wiggles it down into a hole where I wanted it to break and tapped it until it was down in. Then I simply gave it a couple decent taps on the side of the chisel to break it off. A couple peices ended up a little smaller than I wanted, but still looks great. There is quite a bit of clay filling some of the holes that wouldn't wash out. I hope that's ok. Thanks for your input!
