OK I know that it is in the family of managuense and dovii and I know it is a piscavore but i wanna know more about this fish like how to tell between male and female and how big they get and PH prefrence. I bought him at my local pet shop and He is about 4.5" now he does great with my 2 managuense and my wolf cichlid, ( by great I mean they lip lock alot nothing to serious though they are all in a 150 tank) if anyone can help that would be great. its the first time ever dealing with this fish.

Males can get to 12" or better if properly maintained, while females reach 9-10". Just like any of their other parachromis relatives, sexing them apart shouldn't be too hard. Males have faster growth rate and develop blue-greenish speckles throughout their bodies. Females will usually have the black to brown lateral blotches.

This LFS in the Detroit suburb had an impressive 14" specimen on display. Mistakenly thought it was a motaguense, but the owner confirmed it was a "freddie".

thnx for the info but its a tad bit late, my fred was murdered by my red devil.

thnx anyway though
