Has anyone ever had a basket starfish. I picked one up today and it's simply an amazing animal. before tonight i had no idea they existed. They have app 20 legs and curl themselves up to look like a flower when they sleep/hide. My wife is obsessed with it. Anyone know how thier servival rate or had any experience with one ?

working on some pics... batteries charging up now.. it's running around the tank and i am simply amazed !

Wow. so that is a pretty interesting animals. Question though, what are you gonna do if you find out it is incredibly difficult to care for... or will eat polyps...?????? hmmmmmm.... might be another example of why impulse buys are not in the hobbyist's best interest.

lol... He came out of my LFS display reef tank. The staff said he wasn't for sale he had been in there a few months. The owner came over to say hello and my wife gave him the puppy dog eyes. He smiled and bagged him up for me. It was in his personal display. (Thats when you know i am in there too much.) I was staring at it thinking it was some kind of odd coral. then it stood up and walked away. My face must have been priceless. My wife looked at me and said "I don't care what it is buy it". The owner said he's had a few of them over the years and never had them harm anything. He said the pretty hardy. This guy is the only one around here anyone trusts. he knows his ****. I took a few pics but they didn't come out that good. Plus i can't figure out how to post it on here.

No special food required.. They are a type of bristle. They filter the water in the high current to feed and mostly come out at night. During the day he curles his legs inward toward the center and amost looks like a flower. As soon as i turn the light on he does this. The second the light goes off he stands up and walks around like an octopus.

DSR... I was reading some of your posts. I had a similar accident to yours about 5 years about. I woke up at 2am one night to a weird sound. It was my 150 gal tank that had about 4inches of water left in it. The niose was the electical outlet it was leaking on shorting out. Try cleaning up 125 gal of saltwater from the living room. The house smelled for almost a month !! I feel for you man I know what it's like to go through that. I lost everything and had to start over.
