Bass in an aquarium?!?!?!?!

Yes, it can be done. You'll need a BIIIG tank though... check out monsterfishkeepers.com and aquaticpredators.com - they have fora dedicated to keeping NA natives.

The state of Florida has some in a big tank at the State Fairgrounds, but I believe they only tank them during the fair. They've had them 20 years as far as I can tell, so it is unlikely they have the same fish in there from the first time I saw them.

Oh, as to legal, here in Fl. you have to catch them legally, and you must have a valid fishing license.

If you want to keep a wild fish, I'd suggest something of a smaller nature, like a perch or a crappie. If that works out, just build yourself a massive tank and model your local waters.

ooh idea. First get rich. :) Second i need to buy some lake front property. Third need to build the "living room" over the water with a plexiglass floor slightly pressing into the water so you can see into it. Fourth .. i guess bait in some fish for viewing pleasure.... hmmmm biiiig tank. Why model the waters when you can just use them.

edit:

ooh better idea. build house in middle of lake 10 ft under with glass floor and big windows. Now your in the tank. wonder how often the fishy overlords will do air changes :)

What about just building a big window in one side of the basement and then dig a little 'channel' from there to the lake water in your new waterfront home? Fence in the water side to keep the fish in and then voila! Your new 'fish tank' is ready! It's simple, really...

I was wondering the same thing but now i am wondering what happens if you release them into the wild again.

I have kept bass, bluegills, perch, bullheads, and other lake fish in a ten gallon aquarium. The size of these fish were no longer than 2 inches though. I personally think the smaller fish are better to have. They look better and they are very tough. No heat is required, but the fish are more aggressive and more active when the water temperature is higher. Feed them bloodworms and flake food.

I love keeping and catching wild fish!

I catch striper. rainbow trout and catfish fry for my oscars.

I also have sucessfully kept a large mouth bass in a 55 gallon tank for about a year. The only thing I noticed was the bass's color faded a bit.
But you know, they are not that colorful anyway. Don't worry, I released him back in to the lake.
