Hi all,

My aquarium is experiencing snail overpopulation, both MTS and pond snails. They're handy little guys, but there are way too many. My poor catfish hardly have time to get to their pellets before the snails find them. So, some ( well, a lot) have got to go.

I tried the nuked slice of zucchini, but it wouldn't stay in the gravel long enough to draw snails. What's a good way to hold it down? And what methods of snail trapping would you recommend?

i would take an old water bottle and cut the top off right at the neck, invert it and place the veggie inside. This way hopefully the snails go in, and the fish stay out. Place it at lights out and check a few hours later.
 
That's a good idea :idea:, but these panda cories are small enough to get through the opening of even an uncut water bottle. (Like the ones that come in cases from the store.) Maybe rubberbanding a slice to a rock?
 
I use a leaf of lettuce. I either bury the bottom of the lettuce leave under gravel, or under I put the bottom of the lettuce leaf under some decor in the tank.

Lots of snails can fit onto a lettuce leaf
 
a slice of potato on a stick. the potato doesnt disintegrate as quick as the zuke. put a bamboo skewer through it and voila. check periodically, pull out the slice when its loaded and shake it off where ever. reinsert as necessary
 
Any green veggie will attract snails to it overnight, just set out multiple traps and manually take out any snails you see. Where will you get rid of the MTS?
 
I have one of those ugly orange clownfish-shaped veggie clips with a suction cup they sell at petco...but I took out the cup and tied a small rock on it to weigh it down for the bottom feeders. I also laced a piece of fishline through the tail with a rock tied to the end for a weight/visual aid, which dangles outside of the tank while it's in service so I don't have to get my arm all wet pulling it out when they're done munching. Works with any veggie bait :)
