The pond with some Triops
I'm not sure wether to stick this in this section or general freshwater.

ok, i was wrong. i thought that my tank would never get any algae and went too crazy with the light. upon closer inspection, i found:
1) a layer of green growing on front and back sides...

2) my snail was inactive AGAIN

3)(main topic) I found hairy greyish colored threads in clumps attatched to my floating water sprite (my betta rests in it... but maybe i should plant it...)

as said, #3 is the main topic here, but feel free to answer the others :D

setting up my planted aquarium, i also noticed these grey threads. my neighbor said this was undigested fiber, but i doubt it.

Usually this kind of algae means that something is out of balance in the planted aquarium. I had this problem a while back and started to dose Florish Excel and Florish on a daily basis. Within a months time the problem had been eliminated completely. Also the American Flag Fish will usually take care of this problem too but they are hard to find, at least I have a hard time trying to find them around here.

1) Green is probably green spot algae or green dust algae.
2) Snail?....get rid of it. =P
3) More algae.

What's your lighting? Do you dose fertilizers? Do you have either injected CO2 or use Excel?
