I also would like to know if that is a stock fluorescent or screw in CF's.
I really appreciate this thread. It shows that by using plain gravel and normal lighting you can achieve quite a nice scape. Naturally, you aren't going to get a dutch aquascape that will make people at APC drool-- but I think that if you want a natural yet attractive design yours is all thumbs up.
thanks for all the comments, here are the answers to your questions:
the lights are 2 screw in CF lights, each 10watts and 5100k. i switched over to the CF lights in mid march from incandescent lights. i try to dose every other day a cap full of excel. i do a 25% water change once a week and use 2 cap fulls of excel when i do a WC. the temperature stays around 78, it sometimes goes up mid-day when it gets hot in my apartment.
the gravel is just regular gravel i bought from petsmart, i also got the lights from petsmart. Im currently looking for black sand because i hate the look of green algae on the white gravel and don't like the contrast of the albino cories on it.
im going to be introducing CO2 next week in addition to the excel, im waiting for my glass diffuser to arrive.
