Beginner betta tank?

Awesome; thanks for the advice, guys! My bettas right now are eating only flakes. I bought some pellets but they're too big for their mouths and sink rather quickly. I'm heading over to my LFS tomorrow, hopefully to pick up some silk plants and one or two shrimp as a test. Will bettas eat frozen brine shrimp as well? And is there any brand of pellets for smaller-mouthed bettas?

Bettas love frozen brine shrimp...and bloodworms, and mosquito larva and black worms...

I've got 4 female bettas in my planted 55g mish-mash community tank. The problem I run into is they tend to over-eat and get all bloated in a community tank, where you're trying to feed everyone at one time. I've had my group for about 2yrs now. Love them.

I've also kept single male bettas in a planted 10g with other fish. Had one male betta with a small group of zebra danios. Then had a setup with one betta and some blood-fin tetras. No issues with either setup. Doing over, I like the idea of a male betta and a group of pigmy corys or a single betta and a bunch of celestial pearl danios. Bettas can be real jerks or be totally mellow. You never know, so it's best to have tank mates that will stay clear of it.
