Beginner here: Filtration question

I have a 46 gallon tank with a biowheel (up to 50 gallon)

I have cloudy water (added live sand last night). I read a thread that a protein skimmer will help. Is this okay to have? two filtration systems?

I also planning on adding some live rock to it as well.

most people run multiple filters on one tank. At times, there are three running on my tank (same as yours)

Will the protein skimmer completely help the process of clearing up my cloudy water?

protein skimmers are mainly used for SW applications. If you are having issues with clear water, id go and get a UV sterilizer. I just purchased a turbotwist 9W for my forty six bowfront to put in-line with my canister filter.

UV sterilizers work great for clearing up water, and protecting from disease. My other one that i sold (to get the turbo twist) cleared up a REALLY REALLY bad algae bloom in three days.
