Behemoth planted tank

There will be perhaps in a few weeks. the tank has been trimmed and redone a few times recently.

So it'll take some work, but it will get there I think.
Finding what works for the owner and the layout that is manageable is always a challenge, I think we know what we want, but just need to get it there in the next few weeks.

Having lived in California for most of my adult life, how do you protect these large tanks from the shear of an earthquake? I see steel on this one but I can imagine the forces on the tank in a large quake?

The "small" quake of 1989 put water all over my floor from a 50 gal tank and moved the tank about 3 inches over on the top of the counter it was displayed on.

Oddly enough, you would probably have lost very little water had the tank not slid on the counter. Usually, the water sloshes up at one end only to be caught by the tank when it recoils from the initial movement. I saw this happen in a good sized swimming pool during the large (6.6 on Richter scale) Sylmar quake (1971) - 4 ft standing waves at alternating ends of the pool. Total water slopped out onto the deck - maybe 20 gallons.
 
Steel stand bolted to the cement foundation which is on granite, not going anywhere, 1.5" thick acrylic is not going to break.

Great tanks. My experience with earthquakes left me very leary of large tanks on the stands provided by stores. I know that you have custom built the stands it was just that I only saw front to back bracing in the photo and almost 7 tons of tank have the ground move under it left me wondering.

Your work is beautiful. You are to be congratulated.

One additional question. How did you automate the water change? I'm just interested in the draining. If you have an overflow or you have holes in the bottom of the tank (this is the 450 gallon Davis, CA tank). I am guessing that there is a solenoid somewhere.

Love the setup and being new to the hobby I thought discus were the cats arse but in a tank like this it makes it look like a circus. this has changed my mind on what I like. Lastly do you know of a good club in Maryland Washington dc area ?
