Beliefs in the paranormal?

The house where I grew up was on what used to be a farm, and there was this life sized statue of saint Theresa in the barn behind the house... it took about 6 grown men to get her to the second floor for storage, but we found one day that she had moved from the center of a pile of junk to the window, almost 50 feet away, with nothing else disturbed. She moved a couple more times, to different windows, but now she's standing staring out the second floor window of the barn.. it's really creepy to see. My little brother died right next to her.

So yes, I would have to say there is something out there... maybe not spirits of the dead, or demons, but definitely something unexplainable...

oh god i hate you guys. i'm home alone, boyfriend won't be back until 4am, and i believe in ghosts! just reading this is giving me goosebumps, a rolling stomach, and a case of bad nerves. i wish i was sitting in the corner so i could make sure nothing is behind me.

in college i lived in a dorm that was haunted. the girls bathroom on the third floor (there was one room between my room and the bathroom) definitely had a "wandering" presence. for example, you could go in there in the middle of the night, having a crappy entire day, hung over and angry, and it would be fine. other times you're walking in, gotta pee in the middle of a bright happy sunny day, and there's just this. . . . feeling. or it could be the opposite. it didn't matter what time of day or how you felt when you walked in - "it" was either going to be there or it wasn't, and you would know either way. the feeling was creepy, depressing, cautious, heavy air. definitely made you want to get in and out. luckily we all had sinks in our rooms.

another example from there was when my roommate (we had gone to high school together as well) asked me what i was doing the night before. i was like - what do you mean? she replied - i woke up during the night and saw you standing by the closet in your nightgown. well, i don't have a nightgown and i hadn't gotten out of bed. since we were in bunk beds (good old dorm rooms) she didn't know that i was in bed above her at the time when she had seen "me" standing by the closet. a few weeks later the subject of ghosts came up with other girls in our dorm and a few of them also reported seeing this 'girl in a nightdress", along with small items being moved around or knocked over within minutes of leaving a room and then coming back with no one else there.

i know it sounds stupid and "oh, of course your dorm room at college was haunted" but i found out later on (a website that lists ghost sightings all over the US) that my building was the only one on campus out of maybe 12-15 dorms to be reported on that site as haunted, and it wasn't like everyone was just feeding off each other because we had all had separate experiences before we came together and actually discussed them.

whoaa freakyy..

i didn't think this thread would actually get 3 pages of feedback.

response to a few comments. dwarf puffer and bettagurl, was it that you tried to move but couldnt? two of my friends said they woke up in the middle of the night unable to move their body. they say a ghost or demon is lying on top of you when that happens.

and then coincidentally, the night i started this thread, i left my computer on and went to bed. the second i laid down, music blasted. i didnt shut off my speakers and the sound came from an ad from aol AIM program. scared the crap out of me though.

.

It's called sleep paralysis. Basicly ur brain wakes up from REM before your body.

Save your fear for the Zombies:grinyes:

Zombies!! HA!!

we defintely are not alone... I used to sleep in the basement at my mom's when I lived there. My dad had recently passed on, and I worked nights. Several times I would awaken to footsteps on the floor upstairs... I would go up there thinking my mom was home from work early. but she wasnt there, and the doors were still locked. Eventyally I moved into the spare bedroom upstairs... Once I was sleeping during the day again, and heard a bump, and woke up. it was summer, and I was freezing, the curtains were moving as if the window was open.. but it was closed. The house has a boiler, and not a furnace, there is no central air...when I sat up the breeze went away... then as I sat there, an icy cold mass of air seemed to move through me, and like a switch, I was warm again..almost instantly.. got the chills just typing this up..

Then there was the time at my friend Rudy's house.. he always said the place was haunted, I just thought he was nuts. We would tell me about him reading the paper at the dinner table, and laying it down to see a "glowing blue woman" as he put it, watching him read, and then she would just fade away... I thought he was full of it. One day I was at his house watching tv... there are bookcases along one entire wallof his living room.. A book SHOT out of the bookcase, and flew all the way across the room maybe 18-20 feet, hitting the upposite wall, and fell to the floor... the room temp dropped about 10 -15 degrees, and I FREAKED OUT!! I have never been back there again..

I remember other things also..creepin myself out now...

i read that......most of these "zombie" cases are explainable. in the old days when bodies werent prepared right, or if someone was declared dead and wasnt, they would wake up and scare the crap out of people. heck, my granpda told me when he was a kid he went to a friends funeral in a BIG church, was an open coffin funeral, someone slammed the church doors and the guy SAT UP IN THE COFFIN!! the man was in a coma and his breathing had slowed down. and this was in the late 1920's early 1930's. so "walking dead" can be explained by people that were thought to be dead, wake up after "dying" and their brain lost alot of oxygen (aka brain dead) and just start moaning or trying to make words......

Were the folks in circa 1054 AD into paranormal when the super nova in the Crab Nebula was observed.

Observations have occurred which cannot be explained but the lack of explanation does not imply paranormal.

Our understanding of nature is expressed in physics.

A very good example of what could be termed a paranormal observation is "really very scientifically based" and is black body radiation.

The classical definition of black body radiation could not explain black body radiation except for very long wave lengths and hence paranormal.

When Plank introduced relativistic effects into the explanation of black body radiation then walla!

I set forth black body radiation in this post as the K which describes our bulbs is a measurement based on black body radiation.

taps all the way lol...i too have had strange things happen in my house.ok here goes,
i walked upstairs to my bedroom to grab something as i was walking past the my room to go down the stairs i glanced over and there was a figure standing over a bed but when i looked back it was gone.once when i was sleeping i suddenly woke up and looked over and there was a boy standing right there staring back at me needless to say i freaked out.and lastly one night i was alone in the upper portion of the house when my computer turned on i walked over to it to see booting up.i had some headphones in the computer so i decided i would put one in my ear when i heard voices lets just say i wasn't the only one in the house anymore (shudders)
