benefits of 5500k or 8800k lighting

Let me run an idea across my friends here

Here is the scenario...75 gal with Custom Sea Life 2x65..6700k bulbs...plants are doing fine

The goal...sunrise...full day...sunset effect
Add a timer and another CSL but with either 5500l bulbs or8800k bulbs
Depending on possible solutions
HAve the dimmer bulbs(5500 or 6700) come on first...then midday, the brighter bulbs(6700 or 8800) comes on and dimmer bulb goes off, evening the brighter bulb goes off and dimmer bulb comes back on until lights out

Hope I didnt confuse anyone....

Does this make sense???
I dont want to run both at the same time because I am not using CO2 right now...but I see IT IS something I will need in the future

ANy suggestions will be greatly appreciated

As far as Actinic and moonlights go...I was told they arent that good for plants...I was hoping for lights that would have purpose instead of effect...
Do they have actinic for Power compacts like CustomSeaLifes????

I use the combo mix of 5500K and 8800K, I like the color.
Any of the three, 5500, 6700, 8800K will do well.
I tend to mix the colors to get a balance which appeals to my eye more.

I do not think you gain any adavantage having a dusk to dawn series of lights coming on/off.

It may save you a little on the electric/bulb life perhaps.

But the results will pretty much the same with the bulbs you mentioned and the method you want to try out.

You can add a LCD moonlight, I'd pass on an atinic.
Generally the 5500K come first(say 11 hrs), then the 8800K for the high noon effect(say 5 hrs).

This staggered lighting will also keep the tank a little cooler also.

I played with all that in the past, but I just put the tanks on full blast for 10-11 hrs. Doesn't hurt either way.

Just my opinion..

I had actinics before, and returned them as I didn't want to hang on to them just in case I wanted to go with a saltwater tank one day..

I suppose they could 'work' for a nighttime effect, but so do Custom SeaLife's MoonLites.

I started this dawn dusk thing because when my light comes on, it kinda scares the fish

I will try the 6700 11 hours and the 8800 5 hours

Hey Tom...let me run this by you
My tank gets early morning light, not directly, from a glass door to my backyard. I velcro black fabric(from Walmart) on the tank at night and remove it around lights on time.
Now when the tank lights first come on...the water is crystal clear. After about two hours or so, there is a slight cloudiness..nothing significant...just noticeable to me.
Besides the possible dosing, I use Flourish Excel(CO2), TRace, Iron. Could it also be the light from the door creating an algae bloom...The tank is a good 25 feet from the door
