ok, here's the deal: i keep reading about the indian almond leaf and it's benefits for bettas. is it true or not? i'm reading things like
* Contains Yucca extract that will bind the ammonia (NH3) in the water.
* Contains calcium needed to activate the muscles and to develop strong bones, teeth and scales.
* Lowers the pH of the water and absorbs harmful chemicals.
* Adds essential trace elements to the water.
* Ideal for conditioning the Betta, promotes spawning, activity, and colors.
* Colors the water via natural tannins. lignins and fulvic acids.
* Will make the bubble nest stickier.
* Produced with natural ingredients.
* Recommended for fishes that prefer tannin stained black-water strams, the natural habitat of the Betta.
* Recommended for all fresh water fishes kept in small containers without filters, specially during transportation.
all of that was from petsmart.com, http://www.petsmart.com/global/prod...1159683920558&itemNo=4&In=Fish&N=2037042&Ne=2

Hey mtiller,

I've used Attison's Betta Spa before. IMO it works really well. Keep in mind though, despite everything it does, it doesn't mean you can go longer without doing water changes etc. Regular maintenance still needs to be done.
I do however prefer the Indian Almond Leaves to the Betta Spa.
Oh and YES it sure does promote spawning and helps to create stickier bubble nests! Within an hour of adding a small piece of the leaves to each of my betta jars, every single male had built a really nice nest and were active and loving life!
IME it does everything it says it does
I also use it as a natural disease preventative and it works wonders. My fish are healthier and more vibrant than ever.

what kind of betta do you have?
if you have one of those regular cupped bettas, it wont make that much difference.
but if you ahve wild caught bettas it makes life so much easier with breeding and such

both of my bettas were bought from Petsmart, too good to pass em by. my male is a CT with a greenish/bluish tint to his scales on his sides. i'll try and post pics, but they may be a bit blurry.

I have to disagree there! I have both store bought bettas and bettas from breeders overseas and then mine that I've bred myself here and it benefits all of them, not just the ones from Thailand. It shouldn't matter where you got your betta from, the leaves will benefit both. Oh and none of my bettas are wild caught...now days they breed all of them, no need to go out and catch them..how do you think they get all those colours? They are all selectively bred for colour, finnage, genetics etc. Some breeders have been working on some of their betta lines for years just to get a certain colour or fin type as it can take generations to get what you want or improve what you have.

there are some wild caught bettas tho, when i used to live in japan those betta macrostomas were like $300 a piece... and the bred ones were about $50.
bred ones does have nice colours, i must admit but there is something about those wild ones, if you know what i mean...

:D :D

Oh yes they definitely are beautifly fish! Even nowadays though those are being bred commercially and sold. Although like you said, there are some who will still go out and catch them.....not many though. :p:
