Hi all!

I've done some research to find definitions of berried and saddled shrimp, but I'm still not clear on them. Can anyone offer a clear definition? I'm trying to figure out exactly what it means, and how to tell when it happens.

Thanks!

Saddled is when you can see a sexually mature females visible ovaries and unfertilized eggs. Once the eggs are fertilized, they are moved to the swimmerettes, which is referred to as berried. Typically they are saddled for 2-3 weeks, then berried for 2-3 weeks before hatching (for neocaridina species).

Now that I can understand! Thanks so much. Is there an easy way to explain what this would look like on an amano shrimp?

typically the saddle looks like a patch right behind the shrimp's head. I don't keep amano, so I am not sure how visible their saddle is. When they are berried, you can see them "tumbling" the eggs with their swimmerettes under their lower abdomen.

Awesome! Thanks again.
