i am getting a 36 gallon tank for my b-day and wanted to know what a good algae eating fish would be.I was thinking of an otto but now i am thinking they are 2 small....

thankyou for the help

Otos do a great job but you need a bunch of them.

Perhaps a school of 10-15 Otos and you'll have the Comic Relief feature as well when they play.

Otos are hilarious! I have 5 in my 46 gallon, strictly as cleanup but now I'm falling in love with their personalities. In combination with the ots I will have shrimp and snails. That should be a nice group for cleanup and plant friendly.

I have otto's in my small tank and a bn in my 55.

the bn does a great job as well as oto'syou would need a small school but given they run about $2 ea..not bad..make sure they have enough food tho..mine are always and I mean always eating..

10-15 otos and you couldn't put any thing else in. Otos are good just make sure ou supplement there diet. Also They like established tanks and should not be put in right away. Mabye try waiting a couple months.

Yes, otos can be quite sensitive and do best in well established tanks. They also do best if you actually have algae! You will have to supplement, algae wafers are fine but fresh veggies are great.

I have 3 otos in my 37 gallon along with a bushynose pleco and some nerite snails but I actually got the fish for personalities and looks (love the bristley nose on my albino BN and the antics of the otos) and the snails for cleaning the glass and plants.
