I've researching on SLR cameras. I'm trying to buy one that is reliable and good as a beginner's SLR cam. And not too expensive.

So far I've heard good things about Nikon D40 and Sony cams.

Any suggestions?

i recently spent a ton of time researching.

1st thing I noticed Cannon Vs. Nikon = Coke Vs. Pepsi.

Go to a local camera shop that sells new & used equipment feel them both, play around, see which one you prefer.

I went with a "used" 6.1MP Nikon D70; if I wasn't told it was used, I'd have assumed it to be brand new. I paid $400 (in december 07) with body, 18-55mm lens, charger, battery and 512mb mem card.

I have since picked up a nikkor 55-200mm VR lens.

I love this camera, it's more than I'll need for a couple years, and for the price I couldn't beat it.

I have a canon digital rebel xt. It's my first dslr, had it for about 2 years now. Love it. I recommend it. I'd get the xti if I was beginning now though.
