I would like to take a poll of aquaria central to list the top 5 canister filters for tanks 55 to 200 or above. Just curious to see what experienced aquarists would choose.

I don't have a top 3 as I've only used one brand. I suggest a Rena XP3 for a tank 55+....when you get around 100g or so, you'll need more than one.

I will always choose the Eheim classic series. I'd go a pair of 2213 for a 55 gallon or a pair of 2217 for a 100 gallon. Anything above say 150 gallon, I'd go with the 2250 or 2260 plus a 2217 as a second.

I like having two filters because I can alternate cleaning the filters without stressing the tank or upsetting the balance much. One filter remains unchanged then next month I clean the one I didnt touch..etc.

the top cannister is Eheim. all others are second best and still others such as Fluval are absolute crap.

I like my Fluval...so far. It beats the pants off a HOB I was using.

I second what GirlieGirl said. I really love the Rena XP3, and prefer it to any other canister, but I've never kept a tank bigger than a 55.

I have had very good experiences with both eheim and magnum canisters.
