Best cichlids for a 20 gallon?

I have some krib in a 20 gallon. they are doing great and their colors are really coming out. (wish I had pics) I would recomend most of the small cichlids, only if you're getting a breeding pair, don't have any other fish in the tank.

and if you get Kribs, make sure you have lots of caves and plants for them to hide in. when i first owned Kribs a few years back, i made the mistake of buying a pair of males. i thought i had gotten a male and female. and the petstore clerk sent me home with a pair of kribs and ONE rock cave. he said they just needed a cave to hide in.
the next day, i had to return one of the male kribs. he was quite beat up too, fins all tore up and his tail was nearly gone! the petstore manager apologized and gave me a female and another cave for free.
you can have more than one male, just make sure you have more than one cave....i learned that lesson the hard way! :D and dont have 2 males and one female, they'll fight over the female.
my lfs sells kribs, usually they're really small. only about an inch long. and they cant always tell if they're male or female yet, but if you find out that you dont have a breeding pair, you can swap them out for other kribs until you get a breeding pair. or whatever you want, all females, all males...my lfs is pretty cool about that.

yea mine are both males. I got them when they were really small so I couldn't tell. one is nice and big but the other is small, not good colors, and his back fin is torn. anyone want a fish? lol

I'm not surprised you haven't seen them. They're easy to overlook. They're just not the fish that catches your eye when you're walking down the aisle. Ask if they have any tangs, as all shellies come from that lake.

I think you could keep a trio of multis in a 10g as well. I have three in about 7g of water (20 long that has a divider in it). So far they are alot more fun to watch than the brevis on the other side of the divider. The only problem (well, I don't see it as a problem) is that you can't stop them from breeding, and they can outgrow a tank if you don't sell off the fry.
