The pic that dani posted earlier of the rope fish. Use that as your reference.

I disagree, they look entirely different (however, the amount of time I spend watching videos of sens and violet gobies probably accounts for this). However this should help.

Baby senegal: (first 3 are my lovely Nim)

And here are some of baby violet gobies

Senegal bichirs have a lot smaller heads, big eyes, and they have the snake like nose projections. They also are tannish in coloration, while the dragon gobies are more of a brown/grey with violet tinge, have large heads, and tiny tiny eyes.

Hopefully this helps!

Bichirs all the way, you can get them at petsmart for like $8 a piece, they have wonderful personalities! For the most part, peacocks hide a lot and have a harder time competing for food. Bichirs still have an issue competing for food, but not as much as peacocks. They also are a lot easier to feed, while peacocks can be quite picky. And, peacocks are prone to infections and NEED fine smooth sand and smooth rocks/wood, mine is in a tank with perfect everything, and he got an infection just from being in petsmart gravel. Bichirs are super hardy, and although sand substrate is best in my opinion, some people either do bare bottom or gravel.

Okay, I have never heard of ropes at petsmart, but you never know. If it doesn't look like a snake though, or like any of the pictures I posted, then it's not a rope.
