Best Filter for 30 Gal tank

I always thought that sponges were finer than floss. Hmm, looks like I learned something today.

floss should be on top since you want the water to come in contact with the floss last..

Basically its getting rid of large junk with the sponge and finer junk with the floss.. If its done floss then sponge then the floss gets clogged fast and doesnt really perform well, plus filter will start to lose some flow.

don't go to the LFS, Wal-Mart has the stuffing (same thing) in their fabric section, much cheaper.

An AC50 might be a little on the low end as a single filter, another AC50 might be in order.

With HOBs I like a turnover rate of about 10x + per hour, though, then again, thats me with any filter, IE Magnum 350 on a 29.

I use two AC50s on my 28g and I wouldn't go with anything less than that. Pick up another AC50 and you'll be fine.

I would rather upgrade to an AC 70 instead of having 2 AC 50's, but I was told that since I have no live plants I shouldn't worry...

AC50 is kind of small for a 30 gallon tank. I would upgrade to an AC70. I use AC70s on all my 29 gallon tanks.

I say get a canister then instead of AC70

You could just get an AC 70 and keep your AC50 for extra filtration.

Well, I do have also a pretty new Whisper 40 (210 GPH) which I'm not using, but I would prefer lower expenses in filtration media (by just buying stuff for only one filter). Any thoughts?
