I have a Marina S10 on a 6 gallon tank and it seems underpowered even for that small of a tank. I would not put it on a 10G tank. But then again, you want something with low flow so it may work for you

if your going to use a sponge filter you can make a waaayyy better one for the money, for about 5-10 bucks at the local hardware store
to each his own. i suggested this filter because it is low profile.you can bury it half way into the substrate.at $2.99 it is very cheap.and it holds media to boot.i have made my own sponge filters for less,from things laying around the house.not everyone likes the diy look though.
I think AC is the way to go. The other filters might be cheaper but the media needs more regular changing (like every month from what I hear) and the expense adds up.
I'd have to agree on an Aquaclear and I have an Aquaclear 30 on my 10g and 20long. I run a piece of sponge over the intake on the 10's AC30 to slow the flow some. I've had the following HOB's in the short time I've been back into the hobby: TopFin 30 (whisper), Marineland/Penguin 100, two AquaClear 30's and an Aqueon 50.
IMO, the Aqueon is the best if you want to stick with cartridges. Aqueon cartriges are easy to rinse and reuse, are reasonably priced, especially when on sale and Aqueons will fill and start themselves given how the pump is placed on them. I can't say they're my favorite HOB though.. AC's can be quirky with noise and pump issues, but I don't think I'd buy anything but an AC for a HOB going forward.
