Best filter for a 10g with cherry shrimp and a betta

FWIW I have the AC 20 on my 10g with a better and I'm happy with it. I do have to set the flow toward the low end to keep him from being pushed around, however.

Well, I just found some prefilter replacement sponges that I think will fit over the intake on the AC30. I guess I'll stick with that for now and see how it works out.
Thanks for your suggestions!

Wow! What a great idea! I want to just smack myself in the forehead! Why didn't I think of that! Now I just need to find a smaller plastic bottle...
Thank you!

Go to the pet store and buy a package of foam sheets for aquaclear filters (I used the size for up to 30 gallon tanks). Cut a sheet in half so you have to almost cube shaped pieces of foam. On one end of the foam, take scissors and cut an "X" shape about 2/3rds of the way into your foam block. Then, take the intake of your filter and slide it into your X-shaped hole. You may have to put your finger in and kind of rip it open a little better. This will give you the safety and grazing potential of a sponge filter with the power of a HOB.

It will also slow the flow just a little.

How about this for a pre-filter.

And placing a piece of wood or rock, something(?) in front of the out put, to slow down the water movement.

I actually use this method but modified. I keep my filter on a high setting because I don't think one could ever over filter water. But I take a sponge that is slightly larger then the outflow and I squeeze it in there. The sponge does a good job of reducing the water current as it comes out of the filter and also provides more surface area for bacteria to grow on.
