Best filters and why.

How big is the tank in question? I like the idea of the eheim accompanied with a good HOB filter such as an aquaclear or a penguin. The eheims are a little more expensive then some of the other canisters bit it is a lot of bang for the buck and you only get what you pay for anyways. The eheims are extremely quiet(if quietness is an issue for you. It is for me.)and they run flawlessly. I have run two ehem classic's 2215's on my big tank for five years now without a problem to date. I also have one running on my planted discus tank and again no problems to date with it. I would try a canister filter of which ever one you like and use it with a hang on back. That way if one of the filters shoud fail, then you will still have the filteration of the other filter.

AquaClear power filters are all you need.

Kent Bio Rocker and/or Marineland Tide Pool are both great filters. Cuz I generally place more emphasis on the bio load capacity of the filter more than comfort etc. Both filters are rated capable of handling over 20 kg's of fish!!!

I've already made a stink about how much I dislike these threads, even to the point where mods have told me to ignore them!

Mostly all of the major brands are good filters and that's that. Pick the one you think is prettiest if you're having trouble.

Ok it was cute and neat but we sent it back too noisy we thought it would quieten down but it didn't, after we sent it back they went out of stock so it could have been a faulty one and we just got the bottom of the barrel so to speak.
We bought it from big al's online and they have a sale on right now in Canada for the Eheim so we bought the 2215 so far it is quiet as a mouse.
My hubby said it did leak a few drops when he tipped it from the seams and now he's gone to work so hopefully that is nothing I need to be stressed over.. Other than that it's cool, it looks like solid green plastic on the picture online but it is indeed a cool see-through dark green color....
Just thought i'd better update incase someone is searching for that particular model.
We still run a Penquin 350 as well.

I just got the Hydor Prime 30 for my 55, I still run a Penguin 350 as well but that's out of personal choice right now.
Seems to be doing a good job if not a little too good.. lol.. Not used to seeing my tank so sparkly.
It's got a see-through case don't know if that is going to look disgusting in time whether it's a good thing or not but it's behind closed doors so not a big deal.
I have read but dont' know if it's true that the Hydor Prime is a clone of the Eheim Ecco.

This site has little circles you can mouse over to see some of the features.
